Northern India Ophthalmic Conference (NIOC)
One leg of The Hans Foundation Eye Care - ORV collaboration was a first of its kind CME in the Uttarakhand region called, “Northern India Ophthalmic Conference.” The objective of this unique Conference was to exchange knowledge about surgical techniques and clinical practices. In addition to The Hans Foundation Eye Care and ORV physicians, sixty ophthalmologists from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi attended and learned the latest tips and tricks in cornea, retina, glaucoma, occuloplastics and cataract operations. The CME immensely benefitted area surgeons and residents as they listened to and exchanged the latest eye care knowledge with doctors of international repute.
Surgical Sessions
Another important aspect of the Operation Restore Vision - The Hans Foundation Eye Care collaboration included specialty surgical sessions, serving dually as practical educational seminars. Each afternoon of surgery, cameras and microphones donned The Hans Foundation Eye Care hospital operation theaters. As US and Indian doctors worked side by side to heal patients in the operation theaters, these skilled physicians simultaneously commentated intricacies of the surgical procedures they were carrying out. Area physicians and residents seated in the room next door not only watched each surgery on a large screen, but through microphones linked to the operation theaters, asked questions of the physicians performing surgeries. Several surgeries were audio visually recorded so that knowledge and latest practices displayed therein continue to benefit North India patients and professionals for years to come.
